Happy Birthday! and croquembouche deux

I had a really nice birthday this year.  My Dad was able to come for a visit shortly before my birthday.  For my birthday he bought me a new fridge!  I am SOOOO excited about it.  Our old one was in pretty bad shape, so the new one is doubly amazing.  It has so much more space and is much more efficient.  I decided not to get an indoor ice dispenser for a few reasons. 1. a vast majority of service calls on refrigerators are on the dispensers. 2. I get way more fridge space going without!

Then as a surprise my dad sent flowers.  They arrived early in the morning.  Such beautiful orchids and a guzmania bromeliad.  The note with them said I should get more than a fridge for my birthday.  Later that day some chocolate covered strawberries arrived too!

A friend also gave me a cute little flowering plant, Kalanchoe.  It is from CoolBlooms.com.  A neat site that matches your personality to a flowering plant.  So I am uncomplicated, hardy, brilliant, pleasant and resilient.

I then decided to make myself a cake!  A very special cake.  The croquembouche I had thrown a tantrum about a few weeks earlier.  I DID it and it was wonderful.  Those French really know how to cook.

It was also my first time really doing sugar work like this. (other than some deforemd candy canes some time ago)  It turned out OK.  I can't wait to play around some more.

And best of all...my new nephew was born on my birthday.  Caleb Robert.
The first week of June is a busy month in our family.
6/4 Sheila (married to Chris' brother Matt)
6/5 Julie (Chris' sister)
6/6 Lilly (Julie's Daughter)
6/7 ME! and now Caleb.
Sheila was scheduled to be induced on 6/8 but just couldn't make it.  Now we can keep it the first week of June Birthday club!

Oh I love the fridge! I think kitchen appliances and gadgets are awesome gifts. And I want one of those bottom-drawer-freezer types. My sister has one and it seems so much more spacious and organized and convenient!
