Rocky Raccoon

For awhile now we have had a raccoon that had taken a liking to our trash. Why, I am not too sure. I guess to a raccoon a dirty diaper is not as offsetting to the table scraps of a toddler. Both Kiah and I had had encounters with the pesky raccoon. It startled me on more than one occasion.

Well, for those of you that picked-up on the past tense, good job! For those of you that didn't, well, let me fill you in on the raccoon happenings. Earlier in the month when we had that cold snap with the freezing weather, Chris took a walk around the house to make sure we had survived the freeze relatively unscathed (which we did.) But what he did find was a snow covered raccoon nestled under our pathetic rose bushes next to the brick wall that separates our front and backyard.

We weren't really sure what the proper protocol was for disposing of a raccoon in this area. I did a bit of research and really came-up with nothing. I then forgot about it until today. I know... gross, huh?

As I was taking the trash can down to the curb this morning I remembered! So I grabbed the biggest shovel I could find and mumbled a little blessing. Not for the raccoon, but for me! I was so worried about the condition the raccoon was in at this point. Well, apparently it has been cold enough to keep it in decent condition. (our my lame excuse for a prayer really worked)

There were no bugs, it didn't smell, and it didn't burst open, ooze, leak, disintegrate, break, snap, crackle, or pop.

It was HEAVY. I ended-up sorta shoving/rolling it into the neighbors trash pile cuz there was NO WAY I was going to be able to lift it up into the trash can with the shovel. I really thought it would be a fitting end to put him in the trash can, oh well.

That is gross. I think it is gross that you took a pic of it!! way to be a strong independent woman, taking maters into your own hands. I don't "do" dead either.

What a fantastic story. I love all the ways you imagined things going wrong. I'm glad they didn't.

That was totally awesome!!! The can would have been quite fitting, but whatever works right!! Oh, can't you think of an excuse to come to Utah and visit me?? I bet all our kids would get along so well. I miss you!!!

Sad, it's kinda cute! I'm glad that he did stay intact and nothing disgusting happened, I would be a bit leary too.
